Slenderman Daybreak
This is how an encounter with Sleder-man looks like in the middle of the day. You need to collect 8 drawings, or messages before Slendy gets you. Since it's daytime, you don't have a flashlight. The game is technically very well made, the concept is good, but an ending is below all expectations. All in all, yet another 3D horror slender game.
In this game some of the problems, which we are used to encounter in Unity first person perspective games evolving Slender-man, have been resolved. However, there are some lacks too, and we'll talk about those below.
Mouse Cursor
Number one, mouse. It is very irritating when player 'loses' cursor position on the screen. Since we move using the map in Slender-man games, and player looks up and down, moves left and right, after a while the mouse simply 'gets lost'. However, in this game it is enough to press the 'esc' key and cursor re-positions itself in the middle of the screen. Left mouse click and it becomes invisible.Lack of Glitches
Since game is just over 4MB, it loads quickly. Moves are smooth and there are no glitches or jitter. It is not unusual that unity file has 20MB, and sometimes an unbelievable 100MB, especially when game is in 3D version like this one. I personally haven't seen so far a Slender-man game with better and smoother animations through 3D space than this one.
Slender messages
This version goes back to the original story where you collect messages and there are 8 of them. At some point, developers lost themselves for a moment and started making games where you collect all kinds of things, from audio messages to billiard balls. So, that makes this return to origins a good thing. The messages were depicted in form of childrens' drawings where Slender-man is the main motive. They look very creepy because they show the child's first encounter with a monster.
Daybreak
To distinguish this game from the original and all other versions, developer made an unusual and rather bold move. Instead of the dark woods, he is placing us in an urban complex in the broad daylight. The feeling is much scarier when you are alone in the dark forest with the fog creeping in, while you are holding only half working flash-light in your hand. On the other hand, here we have a big blue skies above our heads, and that doesn't make the atmosphere too scary.
The original name of the game is 'Urban Daylight Slenderman'. Since this 3D map looks like some kind of prison to me, I have decided to cut the title short and simply call it 'Daybreak'. If you have another idea for an even better title for this game leave it in the comments below.
Drawbacks
My personal biggest drawback is the way Slenderman moves in this game. After you find and pick up message number one, Slender man starts to literally follow you. Wherever you go, in whichever 'ally' you try to run, he is always one step behind. It would be much more interesting if you could lose him, at least for a while. That's how that one 'jumpscare' moment could be used multiple times. I believe that this kind of intervention would make the game far more serious and of higher quality. Other drawback is that you can't run. We are used to the fact that 'shift' key helps pick up the pace and that is how we take a breather form Slender-man. However that was not implemented in this game. The game feels unfinished, because after you have collected all messages, nothing really happens and all you can do is continue running.
Player comments from Newgrounds
I will single out several of most typical comments- Great graphics and gameplay for browser game
- There is no RUN option!!!
- After you collect all 8 messages nothing happens, you still have to hide!
- Slender man is always behind you, he doesn't have the route of his own
- There are bugs in the map. Some cracks in the walls lead outside and then you start falling indefinitley
- Way to easy
- This is slender 7th street style
- Interesting spin-of but not better than slenderman space
- It wasn't that scary
BadEverDayXD : good...
thecrazyone : i couldnt find the some of the pages >~< but it was a good game
Chara Dreemurr [undertale] : Nu nu nu nu!
Chara Dreemurr [undertale] : Where are the other pages?
Gamemashter : ey this is a good game but i fell off the map but oh well i beat it
scary_kid : what? secret exit :D btw I'm in heaven :D lol
Sea The Antiquated Puppet (æµ· è‹æ‰“) : WHERES DA LAST PAGE?!
Scientist : This game is easy, the only a bit hard thing is to find all pages but you can even go out of the map...Boring gameplay slendy just always teleports a bit behind you,and it's not scary.I think that 20 dollar mode in the eight pages is scarier.★★
scary_kid : fiinally found all 8 pages but same as when I play slenderman nightmare camp - I cannot escape :/ that's what I don't like about these games :/
Daedra : that was easy :o
scary_kid : same here, every corner, every home every trash bag - seems it doesnt exist ... or? anyone found the 8. page?
serialzero : Having the exact same problem. I'm starting to doubt the eight page even exists. I went down every row, checked every alley, and even tried to see if they hid it in one of the outer alleys to be a jerk, but I found nothing, nada, zip. I must have spent half a friggin' hour just carefully combing every inch of that stupid place. XP
scary_kid : I can't find the 8th page, I checked every corner, where is it? :(
Vincent Bishop FNAF : I love the sky.
serialzero : What the crap, man? Why is the last page so impossible to find? I was going to give this game kudos for having a pretty good atmosphere, but screw it. Good atmosphere kind of flies out the window when you've circumvented a place two dozen times in vain. XP
HellaRadKawaiiCat : Still disappoints me that you cant actually win the game.
Nonnahs1998 : This makes Me sad that the developers of this game decided to make a game so easy I only had to try 1 time before I got all eight pages and boy was it easy I am THE SLEDNER KING AND I WANT A BETTER GAME
HellaRadKawaiiCat : Easy enough so I got all the notes and decided to fall through the wall oops.
KevShin007 : slenderman dnt seem scary anymore
monster : scary game
Entire_Skys : I like it lol I would love a sensitivity option and fullscreen is messed up :)
rickcrimzon : its harder to escape when he gets you and the only real difference is a blue skybox and its slightly brighter
Captain Kawaii : cool game
KevShin007 : he got me too fast !!!
Creepyalex : Urghhhh 7 pages and he got me! goddamn it! This was pretty cool, I enjoyed it, although it's sooo less scary then the original.
but it was a good game
