Scare Dare - Abandoned House Escape

How foolish is to accept a dare to enter a house abandoned for years if you know that several of your predecessors have vanished without a trace. Proving a courage or plain stupidity? When doors slammed behind your back, you want to get out instantly, but it's too late now.

This point and click horror escape was the first and for now the only such game made by Stefanie Hartung, completely unknown indie author (not so unknown anymore right?). It's available both in English and German. It got 4 out of 5 stars at the time on Newgrounds where I found it. Dark Horror Games website may be not the perfect place for game like this, but since we already have few point and click games and according to what I read about this game I've decided to give it ago. One of the reasons I had second thoughts about it was an image of pumpkin on the opening screen. It turned out that pumpkin was just stupidly put there as a decoration, and it has nothing to do with Halloween games which I commonly avoid in big circle here. The one thing that pops my eyes since the beginning is its tiny screen and quite blurry details. I understand that the less you see and the less you know the more you fear, but I am sure that some players will the game frustrating for this.

The gameplay is located inside an old house. By using the mouse pointer you navigate through the maze of corridors and rooms. When cursor changes to hand shape you can interact with item, or pick it up and put it in inventory. Rules and navigation are typical for escape game. There are hidden keys which open locked doors, and puzzles, which are mostly on the easy side (combination of simple math equations). Not to spoil the quest, I will only say that your goal is to collect "the crystal", get to the attic and finally meet the creature responsible for the mysterious disappearances. Despite several jumpscare attempts, let me be the first to say that the game is not quite scary.
