Do you know what it feels like to run, completely lost, down the narrow hallways of the dark labyrinth, while a bloodthirsty mythological creature is right behind you. This is 3d Unity horror maze, a game about Minotaur, the creature from Greek legends. Your job is to find your way out and and escape before the Minotaur finds you.
What is it about
This horror game was inspired by the story of Minotaur from the Greek mythology. The Minotaur is half man half bull, the creature has the strength and the head of a bull, body of a man and lives imprisoned inside a labyrinth. Each year there are sacrifices being offered to him in a form of people. Until now, no one had ever found a way out of the labyrinth and escaped with their life. Since 2d scary maze games are very popular these days, the developer came to an idea to utilize this forgotten legend. The question on how scary this game is, must be answered individually. To me personally, the game is not too scary. The Minotaur is strong as ten adult men, so he can dismember his victims with his bare hands. Besides his raw strength, he's also got his two bladed axe. However the scenes of gore are not shown here. At the moment of death, the screen becomes all red and the 'respawn' button shows up.
Hard Rock musical theme is very nicely incorporated into the game dynamics and adds to the adrenalin rush when the race takes off. More about that a bit later.
How to play
First, you need to choose the size of the maze, between 6x6 and 17x17. Smaller dimensions mean that the exit is easier to find but also that the Minotaur is closer. That means that smaller dimensions do not necessarily mean easier game. That why an optimal size of the labyrinth is the best way to go. Somewhere about 10x20 should be the good size, because it places you in between of dying every 5 seconds and roaming the corridors for 5 minutes with nothing happening at all.
There are two modes of play: single player mode and multiplayer. In option number two you start the game as Minotaur and your friends enters the game in the role of a 'victim'. I am not even sure how or if this option works, so if you know more about it leave your impressions and an instruction down below in the comments section. Down below you can also find the video of Yaminish who allegedly successfully tested the multiplayer mode.
About the author
The author of the game is Sean Toman in front of ZeoWorks. This is the group which develops 'horror engine unity' platform called "Terror Engine", and there are already several games based on it, which you have probably already heard of:"Reborn 2.0", "Midnight Man", Slendytubbies 2 and a few more, but those unfortunately don't exist in online unity version (only download). These are mostly 3d unity games where the action is happening from the players perspective (FPH - first person horror).
For that adrenalin pumping background music the free TeknoAXE Royalty Free Music was used. Here you can listen to the entire originalni soundtrack
If you are interested to see just how this kind of horror games are made using Terror Engine, you can watch the official trailer:
- walk - arrow keys
- run - left shift
- crouch - left control (never had a chance to use this one!)
- jump - space
- fullscreen - 'F'
- talk - 'T' - this key is used to talk with your opponents only in multiplayer version (never used it)
Minotaur Maze - Multiplayer - I AM THE MINOTAUR
Minotaur Maze by Markiplier
I am rally not the Markiplier fan, but watching his video can give you a sense of what to expect from this game.
kaushik00001 : Hmm Nice :)
Eirikpeirik05 : Bullhead is my nightmare i scared of this bull man
Scientist : pretty good music and game but my only critic is that it is not possible to have a name in multiplayer that doesn't start with G and that you can't be faster than the minotaur.
Emmalove12367 : I hate how all the games on here need the Unity Engine. I dont need anymore virus on my Computer. But its a pretty cool
scary_kid : pretty good music :) anyways, I cant run away from him :D
serialzero : I attempted to start a multiplayer room over at GameJolt, but sadly, this game doesn't seem to be very active. Which sucks, because I wanted to try being the minotaur for once. XD
serialzero : Looks like they got their music from this site. Might be a good resource for anyone looking to make their own games. http://teknoaxe.com/Home.php
serialzero : HA! Awesome. Simple, but fun. Love the fact that they added metal to the chase music. XD
HellaRadKawaiiCat : I still think its fun to just make ungodly noises while running down any possible hall to escape it. xD
Lord Legender : Anybody else singing "mini miniature-ture" when you were playing?
rainbowsgoboom : Hmm interesting xD
HellaRadKawaiiCat : Its okay, but there should be more to it tbh.
Creepyalex : Hmmm, I am slightly disappointed with this one, but no game is unbeatable, so...
cute_but_scary : it is disappointing me sorry to say but this game needs finishing
