Dark Deception is a demo version of a new 3D first person perspective horror game. Since the game project is still in progress, you can only play the shortened first level. In trailer below, you will see some characters and locations which do not exist in this version but will be included during 2014.
Helen Bierce is a young actress who mysteriously disappeared. You, in a role of an investigator, are looking into the location she was last seen. What you discover may come as a shock. This intro story doesn't really have anything to do with the following gameplay. The game comes down to that, that you move through the long and narrow mazelike hallways and collect some kind of purple pieces of glass. At one moment a huge monkey appears (monkey boy) dressed in a bellman costume, holding knives in his hands and with a distraught look in his eyes which gives you chills, and on top of all that he starts running straight towards you. That is when you experience an adrenalin rush and while your heart is pounding you run the hell out of there. So, the game is made as some kind of Slender Man and placed in a rat's maze. The game is very hard, creepy and intense.
How to Play
This first chapter goes under the name 'Into Madness'. "Purple glowing pieces of glass are really fragments of souls scattered around. When you collect them all, the first piece of a puzzle will be solved. Only, there is this one thing. You are not alone. There is a monster there too, made out of your worst nightmares and it is out to get you..." Start running for your life! Monkey sees, monkey kills! In the upper right corner there is a map showing how many gems are left for you to find as well as their location. Opening doors and interaction with objects are not enabled in this version I believe.
Impressions on the game
- Very interesting and effective detail is the female narrator voice borrowed by Carolyn Seymour, otherwise known as Myrrah from Gears of War. Voice acting in this game is excellent! - Individual players claim that game is not scary. I beg to differ. The background music is quite creepy, and if we disregard the strange fact that the monkey is the killer, navigating the narrow hallways is rather spooky, especially when you have no idea what awaits around the next corner. - Since death occurs completely random and unpredictable, that might be a bit unfair to the player, but then again, most of horror games are like that if they want to keep that jump-scare moment. So you very often see the monkey too late, and on other occasions he just sneaks on you from behind.

The site behind this game is called Glowstick Games, and the author was presented as LagrangePt on the Newgrounds. This is a new and ambitious gaming company lead by people with great experience in making games for EA Sports, Zynga i Red Hot Labs. Are they on the right track is up to players to decide. We will pay attention to this game and see how it scores here at darkhorrorgames site.
The game will be compatible with Oculus Rift headset for 3D virtual reality. Unfortunately Oculus Rift doesn't work on this version for web browser, but some functional versions for mobile, PC and Wii are planned. Dark Deception is even published on Steam Greenlight which is a famous portal where good new unity games are published.
Dark Deception Trailer
D3RK_KNIGHT : whhyyyyyy?
D3RK_KNIGHT : WHY MONKEYS LOL?
serialzero : That friggin' monkey is so unpredictable. You think he's behind you, you turn a corner and BAM! He's right there in your face, and you have no chance whatsoever to avoid him. He's a filthy, teleporting CHEATER. XD
scary_kid : the monkey is really fast, I'm not able to run away from him :D
serialzero : Reaction time isn't very forgiving. It would have been nice to have a quick-turn button or something to that effect, but this is still pretty fun nonetheless. The monkey is delightfully creepy, and I love the narrator. She's great. X3
s3n : must watch pewds face
rainbowsgoboom : aah whyyyy I died with 29 left
rainbowsgoboom : So my worst nightmare includes a big monkey?
Scarecrow : Reminds me of pacman XD
Captain Kawaii : this is hard
dyslexik : The monkey keeps killing me.. :(
rickcrimzon : i love the idea, i think its just a bit to hard right now. there is no way to escape the giant killer monkey. and i think some backstory is needed.
Creepyalex : I don't even know what kills me! Whenever I try to turn and see, it's too late.
MINERNOLAN : NO- Now I just CAN'T it's too creepy! It's so fast paced!
MINERNOLAN : This game is really fun.
