Dark Corners

Dark Corners is an indie survival horror game where you try to escape from a very dark, maze-like place. The game was obviously inspired by Amnesia: The Dark Descent from 2010 and Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth from 2006, hence the name.

When the game first came to my attention, and that was almost a year ago, I thought that putting up a 60MB large file was a bad idea at the time and it probably was. But after uploading several larger files recently (slendttubbies is a champion with over 100MB), it became obvious that the games are not going to get any smaller, so I decided to go back for this one.

'Dark Corners' follows a typical survival game concept. You've been left alone in a dark place having no recollection of how you even got there. You have a lantern in your hand, with an option to collect oil in order to fill the lamp occasionally. Otherwise you would end up in a pitch dark, and this is something you would rather avoid. To escape the place you should read the map in order to find the exit. The problem is that you're not the only living soul around. There's also a monster that's been stalking you. Few moments before you actually see him, you will hear a roar. Staying around and fighting is not an option, simply because you don't have any weapons at your disposal. The best bet is to turn around and run away. Facing the monster means certain death. When that happens, the game restarts at the beginning.

Playing the game was cool, even kind of scary, a little bit. There are no real jumpscares, no gore, nothing like that. But this is definitely a horror. It's not an escape game in a classical sense neither, meaning there are no puzzles or anything like that. Yet, to find the exit you would have to figure out what to do. Here's a little help: Go to the (2nd) smaller room, make a left turn twice, get to the lever, pull it down, run straight to the illuminated room, but first make sure you have the key. Interesting little game, far from the best though. Would love to hear your comments.
